Roger Bell Obituary

Roger Dean Bell, 92, passed away on December 3, 2022 at Swedish Medical Center surrounded
by family.

Roger was born on July 22, 1930 in York, Nebraska to Bernard and Leora Bell. Sometime shortly
after Roger was born, the Bell family, including older sister Donna Mae, moved to Lincoln
Nebraska. Roger graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948 and joined the U.S. Navy in
January of 1949. In the Navy Roger received Navy Commendations, Good Conduct citations,
the China Service and Korean Service awards, 3 stars and the UN Medal. Roger left the Navy in
1952. After the Navy Roger attended the University of Nebraska, where he majored in Electrical
Engineering and worked as a television repairman. While he was a student at the University of
Nebraska, he met Ruth Elizabeth Ailes on a blind date that was set up by both sets of their
parents.

Roger married Ruth Elizabeth Ailes on November 25, 1954 in the living room of Ruth’s sister,
LaVetta’s home, one year after they had met on a blind date. They were married for 63 years
and raised 4 children in Englewood Colorado.

Roger graduated from the University of Nebraska and moved with Ruth and Susan to Madison
Wisconsin where he had a job as an Electrical Engineer with General Electric. Shortly after they
arrived in Wisconsin GE Transferred Roger to Newburg New York. Ruth missed her family and
did not like the East Coast winters and she convinced Roger to look for a job in Denver, where
her sister Lois had just moved with her family. Roger got an engineering job at Martin Marietta
and the Bell family moved to Englewood where he remained until his death. Roger worked at
Martin Marietta / Lockheed Martin for 31 years.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna and his beloved wife Ruth. He will be
dearly missed by his daughter Susan, son David, daughter Nancy and husband Jeff, son Stephen
and wife Tina, his 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Roger loved his family, tinkering with cars, working in his yard and garden, traveling with Ruth,
playing the stock market and day trading. He had an amazing smile and was quick to laugh and
would do anything for his family.
