Regina Broderick Obituary

Regina “Gina” Agnes Swatek Broderick died in her sleep on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Born at home on December 2, 1939 in Wagner, SD, Gina was the fourth of nine children, eight of whom lived to adulthood, of Henry and Agnes (Rezac) Swatek. Growing up on a farm and in a large family, Gina learned the value of both hard work and organization. Shortly after high school graduation from Mount Marty Academy in 1957, she, one of her older sisters and a friend moved to Denver.

She met her husband, Jonny, at the Cathedral Club and they were married in 1968 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (now Good Shepherd) in Denver. They welcomed three children and enjoyed 40 years of marriage before Jonny’s death in 2008. Gina was primarily a homemaker during their marriage, but also dedicated much of her time to volunteering, especially at her parish, Holy Name.

During her nearly 50 years as a parishioner, she served as president of the Women’s Club, CCD teacher, Parish Council member, baptism prep teacher and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Her longest volunteer role was as a member of the Marthas, a group which she helped found at Holy Name, that she continued to work with until this past July when she officially retired. She took great comfort in knowing she helped ease the grief of those in mourning by helping provide the opportunity for food and fellowship following the funeral.

Gina’s Catholic faith was the centerpiece of her life. Jonny helped her understand that she was fully loved by God. She truly believed that God could help her through anything, especially in the last few years as her health waned.

Gina is survived by her children—Jolee (Craig) Miller, Charisse (Jim) Broderick King, Richelle (Luis) Ramirez and Devon Broderick; her grandchildren—Meghann (Miller) Muncy, Cole, Brooke and Samantha Miller, Madeline and Amelia Broderick King and Graves Broderick; her great-grandchildren—Annslee, Adalie and Marek Muncy; and five of her siblings—Dorothy Andersh, Mary Ann Reeves, Stan Swatek, Wilma Wyman and Ken Swatek.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Gina’s life will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 7:00 pm at Holy Name Church, 3290 W. Milan Ave. Englewood, with a dessert reception, appropriately coordinated by the Marthas, following. Attendance is limited to 150 people and masks and social distancing will be required. Gina’s ashes will be interred next to Jonny’s at Fairmount Cemetery in a service for family only on Friday, October 30, 2020. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to or volunteering with your favorite charity in Gina’s memory.
