Phyllis J. McKee (Smith) 90, of Aurora, Colorado left her earthly home to join her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2021 with her family by her side.
Phyllis was born on January 14, 1931 to George & Blanche McKee in Bird City, Kansas. After the family moved to Aurora, Colorado Phyllis met her high school sweetheart – Dale Smith. He would walk her to school holding hands and he would make sure he carried her books every day starting at the age of 12 years old, and 78 years later they were still together.
Phyllis worked for Domino’s Pizza as an Administrative Assistant for 25 years. During her employment she loved to compete in the Dominos Performance Olympics. She won several Gold Medals and there is even a bust of her in the main office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. One time she decided to compete against the “dough makers,” and everyone said she didn’t stand a chance but that just made her try harder and she came out with another Gold Medal. At a Couples Competition she talked Dale into competing with her, and again they won the Gold – there wasn’t anyone that came close to beating them. Christmastime she brought home fresh pizza fixings from work so the children could make their own pizzas. Her eyes just sparkled watching everyone having such a good time.
Phyllis loved sports almost as much as Dale, making them a match made in heaven. Together they went to all of the Bronco games through the years, but when the grandkids got old enough to go she would stay home and give her ticket to them. She would stay home and make sure a hot dinner was ready when they walked in the door; that was just like Phyllis always doing something for her family and friends, which she so loved doing. Throughout Phyllis’ life she was known for her contagious and caring personality that shined on everyone fortunate to cross her path. She had 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren which she loved spending time with, from going to school programs to helping with special projects, nothing made her happier.
Surviving Phyllis is her husband Dale, daughter Carla (Larry) Kier, daughter-in-law Deanna Smith and step-sister Shirley Seggerman. She is preceded in death by a daughter Lisa Smith, her parents George & Blanche McKee, sisters: Delores, Firma and Donna, and brother Delbert.
