Mary Elaine Vaughn

Mary Elaine Vaughn, age 63, passed away at her home in Denver, Colorado on Monday, July 20th, 2020. A Denver native, Mary was born to Joseph and June Seewald on April 10th, 1957. Mary was fifth of ten children: David (Silvia) Seewald, Kathleen (Walter) Torres, Mark (Miriam) Seewald, Gregory (Sylvia) Seewald, Victoria (Steven) Campbell, Lynne (Jerry Deges) Seewald, Rhonda Lloyd, Paul Seewald, and Pamela (Mark) Chapin. She graduated from West High School in 1975 and married Timothy Vaughn in the same year. Together, they had Mary’s first daughter, Chreste. They divorced in 1980. She later met Christopher Belknap and they had two children, Lance and Jennifer. Mary was employed in the healthcare field for the majority of her pre-retirement years, having worked at such facilities as Villa Manor Nursing Home, Rose Medical Center, University Hospital, Presbyterian Saint Luke’s Medical Center, and VA Medical Center. In her early years, Mary worked as a nurse’s aide. She later received training as an electrocardiograph technician. Mary worked for several years in that role until she was medically retired in 2002 due to a catastrophic brain aneurysm. Despite many challenges, she managed to make a remarkable recovery. Mary was able to live independently at her condominium in Windsor Gardens Retirement Community and care for her two cats, Gracie and Lacie, whom she referred to as her “babies.” Mary enjoyed dancing, hiking, music, reading romance novels, watching old TV shows, having long phone conversations, going on lunch dates,  joking around with and talking to whoever she could and attending water aerobics at the YMCA. Mary also spent her time volunteering with the Aurora Police Department and singing with the Windsor Gardens Choir. Additionally, she served as assistant building representative at her condominium. She is survived by her siblings, many nieces and nephews, her children, grandchildren (Isaiah, Jonah and Jayde Sanchez; Everett Ferreira), great-granddaughter (Savannah Sanchez), and countless friends.

Services will be held on Friday, July 31st at 10:00am at Trinity Church (4490 Newland Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado).

Masks and social distancing will be required.
