Lowell Howard Hansen, M.D.

Lowell Howard Hansen was born to Rev. Howard and Emma Hansen in Clay Center, Kansas. Lowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jesse Jane (Johnson), as well as a brother, Robert. He is survived by daughters Susan (Hobbins), Rebecca (Haddock), Sheree (McLaughlin), Kathryn (Patterson) and son, Peter Hansen. Lowell had eight immediate grandchildren and three great grandsons. He is also survived by his decade-long companion, Erika Schafer. Lowell grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, then attended Wheaton College, graduating summa cum laude. He subsequently attended the University of Colorado Medical School, graduating in 1955. Lowell served three years in the U.S. Public Health Service, then went into family practice for six years. He completed his radiology residency at Denver General Hospital in 1966 and thereafter specialized in radiology practicing at Mercy, North Suburban, Avista, Rose and St. Joseph Hospitals, as well as Ft. Logan Mental Health Center. Lowell served terms as president of the medical staff at Mercy Hospital and the Rocky Mountain Radiological Society. He was awarded an honorary fellowship by the American College of Radiology for his contributions to radiology. Lowell’s interests included travel, tennis, piano, gardening and a wide range of music. He adored Opera Colorado, the Colorado Symphony and Central City Opera. Contributions may be made to the Children’s Diabetes fund or the charity of your choice.
