Jerrold Capesius Obituary

Jerrold Dennis Capesius, 86, of Englewood, Colorado, died September 10, 2020, in Denver, Colorado.

Jerry was born in a farmhouse outside West Bend, Iowa to Dennis and Alice Capesius on July 12, 1934.   He started his life as a farm boy.  During his high school years he met, and eventually married Carolyn Hersom after high school.  He was drafted into the Army in May of 1957.  He was eventually stationed in Germany where he created with his wife their first child, Steven.  After the Army he went back to the farm in Iowa.  During this time, a second child, Allison was created.   He realized at this time he didn’t want to be a farmer.  With friends in Denver, Colorado, he took the seats out of an old school bus, grabbed his belongings, wife and 2 young children and headed to Colorado.  He and his wife added a third child in Colorado, a daughter Susan.   Jerry worked as an appliance repairman for many years until an opportunity to work for Public Service Company happened.  He worked for Public Service for over 30 years, retiring at the ripe age of 57.

Jerry had a passion for motorcycles.  He rode them from his early childhood until his seventies.  He belonged to Harry’s Roamers Motorcycle club for more than 40 years.  He had a passion for competition on motorcycles.  He went to Sturgis, South Dakota in his earlier years competing in racing and hill climbing. He also enjoyed racing to the top of Pikes Peak on New Year’s day, BRRRRRRRRR.  One of his winter passions was to race motorcycle on ice.  He was a very successful ice racer.

As Jerry got older the old farm boy started to come back.  His passion for motorcycles changed to Antique Tractors. He purchased his first tractor, a 1934 Oliver and the passion grew and grew.  He purchased other antique tractors.  His competitive nature came out again!  There is a competition to see who’s old tractor can pull a heavy weight the furthest.  HE WAS HOOKED!  He restored different types and sizes of tractors to compete in different classes.  His tractor brand of choice was the Oliver.

He is survived by his son Steve and wife Amy Capesius, grandchildren Lanvin Capesius, Siera Capesius, Delmin Capesius; his daughter Allison and Roger Barmann, grandchildren Julie Preisser, Cherie Barmann, Sandra Barmann, great-grandchildren Jack and Jensen Preisser; his daughter Susan and Chris Gallegos, grandchildren Dylan Gallegos, Spencer Gallegos, Paisley Gallegos, Savannah Lira, great grandchildren Taytum, Aubree, and Teegan Lira.
