Gary Cunningham Obituary

Gary Burkett Cunningham, 83, of Englewood CO passed away on October 24, 2020. Known by
his family as “Butch”, Gary was born and raised on a farm in between Max and Benkelman,
Nebraska where he attended Max school and was involved in basketball and track. After leaving
Nebraska, he began his career in 1955 at Colorado National Bank in Denver. Starting in the
proof department he worked his way up to Vice President, while also owning and operating his
own business — GBC Janitorial Services.
In 1957 Gary married Barbara Bascue, together having three children: Diane, Gary Mark and Jill.
He later married Susan Everett in 1968 having two sons, Bradley and David.
Gary’s favorite pastime was “tinkering” around – fixing, painting or general handyman work.
Most recently, he worked and lived at 4400 S. Clay RV & Equipment Storage in Englewood to
occupy his time. It was the perfect job – plenty of room to piddle! His favorite ritual was
morning coffee with his coworkers, whom he considered family.
Always dressed in a flannel button-up, a cigarette in hand, Gary was a genuine, kind and gentle
man – a loving confidant to everyone that was lucky enough to have him in their life. He was a
man of few words. An observer, yet always giving brief (and often very true) advice or a simple
“okal dokal”.
You will often forget what people have said - or what they did. However, you will not forget
how they made you feel. Gary made those around him feel seen, heard and loved. He will be
missed greatly.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Muriel and Cecil Cunningham, and brother Robert.
Gary is survived by his siblings Ronald (Linda) Cunningham, Patty Kier & Janet (Randy) Manning.
Sons Gary Mark (Elise) Cunningham, Bradley Cunningham and David Cunningham Daughters
Diane (Ken) Manzanares and Jill Lucero (Ron Kenny), six Grandchildren Alisha, Nicholas,
Marissa, Kallie, Kaitlyn and Kyle, and three great-grandchildren, Summer, Brooks and Ezra,
Due to the pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
