Eric Adams Obituary

Born: May 24, 1974
DOD: November 24, 2022
Age: 48
Born with two major birth defects, Eric had his first surgery at 17 hours old. He underwent several more
surgeries and hospitalizations but maintained his sunny smile and laughter most of the time. One nurse
commented it was unusual for children with his defects to be so happy. When he was three, he had his
seventh surgery, which was open heart surgery to correct three defects in his heart. He came through
the surgery with flying colors, amazing everyone with his quick recovery and happy attitude. We thought
he was “fixed,” but unfortunately the groundwork was laid for a lifetime of challenges that he had to battle
every day.
Eric was a people person. He enjoyed talking with people. He was interested in what people did in their
lives. He was caring and compassionate and would help people whenever he could. Eric signed up to be
an organ and tissue donor, and as a final act of caring for others, he was able to give to others to help
them have a better life.
Above all, Eric was a football fan, and of course, the Broncos were his team. From the time he was old
enough to watch TV, he loved football. He watched football games as much as possible. He wanted to
be the coach so he could bench players when he thought they deserved it. He admired great athletic
ability. He enjoyed haranguing with his friends about who was winning and losing. He liked pro football
best, but he enjoyed college football on another level. He liked it because the players play with passion
and not just for the money. And since he didn’t have a particular college affiliation, he could watch the
games and simply appreciate them for the way they were played.
Eric enjoyed other sports, too, including basketball, hockey and baseball. Although he was usually a
home-team supporter, he gave up on the Rockies and became a Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed
needling his dad, a Yankees fan, in an ongoing rivalry.
Eric loved music and had – to say the least – eclectic tastes. Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, he was a
heavy metal fan with Mettalica as his favorite band. But he also enjoyed everything from pop to country
to movie musicals. He used to argue with his brother Robert about who got to listen to the soundtrack
from Phantom of the Opera or Jesus Christ, Super Star first.
Kind, compassionate, curious, sports minded. Eric’s major attribute, though, was his sense of humor. It
infused everything he did. He had a quick wit and loved teasing people in just about any circumstance.
Even in the hospital he would find something to tease his nurses about. It is a shining quality that his
friends and family will remember most about him.
Eric was preceded in death by his older brother Chris and his grandparents, Jim and Arlein Adams and
Glenn and LolaMae Blevins. He is survived by his brother Robert and his parents Jim and Barbara. He
has numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and was especially close to cousins Andrew Martin, Michelle
Klocker, and Jamie Leeburg.
He will be remembered for his good sense of humor and his kind and gentle spirit.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish are encouraged to make a donation in Eric’s name to the American
Heart Association or other charitable organization. He was a kind and caring person and would be
honored to have a donation made in his name.
