Doris Peacock Obituary

Doris Marie Peacock, 97, of Denver passed away from heart failure on  November 21, 2020, with her youngest daughter and son-in law, Deborah Peacock  and Nate Korn, at her side in Corrales, New Mexico. 

She was born to the late Oscar Jerome Greenwell and Mary Lillian Merimee in Detroit,  Michigan November 17,1923. Doris graduated from Englewood High School in 1930  and received a BA degree from CU Denver in Elementary Education and Art and a Masters Degree in Fine Arts.  

She married the late Glen Richard Peacock, June 7,1942 and they lived in Denver for  thirty-four years. After Glen’s death, Doris moved to Englewood, CO and lived  independently for another forty-one years. She moved back to Denver to live in an  independent adult center with assistance and finally relocated to New Mexico as she  needed more help. 

Doris is survived by five children: Mary Linda Esquivel (Bob), Denver Colorado; Richard Alan  Peacock (Sharon), Denver, Colorado; Ellen Kay Robinson (Edward), Lakewood, Colorado; Deborah Ann  Peacock (Nate), Corrales, New Mexico; and James Benjamin Peacock, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She  is also survived by eight grand children, nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great grand children. 

After Glen’s death, Doris became a substitute teacher in Denver’s elementary schools.  Later she worked as a full-time first-grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School.  Doris was an accomplished watercolor artist, producing hundreds of gorgeous pictures  that she shared with family and friends. Her pen and ink drawings of Colorado pine tree  species along with their cones and needles were commissioned and displayed by the  Denver Botanic Gardens. She was an esteemed member of The Colorado Watercolor  Society. Even as Doris aged, she continued her artwork. Doris was also a world  traveler. She experienced the customs and culture of numerous countries, great cities,  National Parks and more. She loved traveling with her late sister, Eloise Pinnell, to  numerous unique destinations. 

Her funeral will be held at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Denver. Family  members only at this time due to the COVID 19 pandemic. She will be buried at Mount  Olivet Cemetery next to her husband Glen. A final celebration of her life will occur in  2021, when vaccines make it possible for people to socially embrace, visit, eat, and  share stories to celebrate Doris. Notification to family and friends will be sent, when it is  safe to gather in large groups.
