David Speas was born in Denver, Colorado August 31, 1959 and died unexpectedly May 2, 2023. He was
preceded in death by his parents Reverend Clyde Speas and Glenna Speas.
His father was a Baptist minister whose ministry lead the family to different locations while Dave was
growing up including Nevada, Arizona and Minnesota. He moved back to Denver where he remained for
the last 38 years. When Dave was a young child, the family moved to Israel while his father attended
school there and worked on an archaeological dig. While living in Israel, Dave attended kindergarten
and learned to count to 10 and speak some Hebrew. He didn’t retain that as he got older.
Dave loved watching the Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies, Avalanche, golf and the Minnesota Vikings which
was his favorite team from childhood. He especially enjoyed watching the Masters Golf Tournament
every spring.
He worked as a lumber salesman for over 35 years at various lumber yards in the Denver area – Chase
Lumber, Home Lumber and, for the last 15 years, at Denver Lumber.
Dave dearly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending the 4th of July with them every year shooting
fireworks. He would save up all year to buy the really good big fireworks.
He is survived by his wife, Becky, sister, Dianne Leffler (Dean), daughter, Tina Martin (Kevin),
grandchildren, Kevin Dylan, Mackenzie, Makayla, Liam and Luke Martin, nephew, James Leffler and his
beagle, Oliver.
In leu of flowers the family requests donations to the Colorado Beagle Rescue
