Janice Cooper Obituary

Janice L. Cooper a former Wichita Reserve Police officer for 13 years was born March 7, 1931 (Janice LaReah Asplund) in Kansas City, MO. passed at age 88.  Janice is in Christ’s Hands with many beloved family members and friends.  She is survived by her son Guy Cooper, Gary Cooper and daughter Christina Cooper-Fichter and five grandchildren:  Tonya Cooper, Riley Cooper, Lauren Cooper, Cole Fichter and Christa Fichter.  Janice was preceded in her passing by her husband Donald E. Cooper, a former Marine, the first Reserve Police Captain in Wichita, KS history and her third son George E. Cooper.  Janice suffered multiple strokes, multiple heart attacks, diverticulitis, a broken hip and three months of rehab only to slip at her home in Palm Desert, CA. and break the other hip.  Both hips were replaced.  Janice had successful cataract surgery.  Janice endured receiving two Aorta stints and was under full time 24/7 care for approximately 7 years.  For the last year and a half her daughter Christina cared for our Mother in California and helped wheelchair bound Janice move to Littleton, CO where Janice passed away peacefully January 31st, 2020.  Janice was an inspiration to all who knew her.  To lose golfing three 18 holes a week, volunteer work at the museum and a zoo, the ability to walk, stand or speak very well would seem insurmountable.  Janice has funded animal care and taken in abandoned Dogs and Cats for decades.  Through all of this our mother never complained once, was of a thankful spirit, was grateful for 44 years of marriage and made the best of her 25 years as a widow.  Janice had numerous hobbies to only find herself able to cook, be bathed, sleep and watch TV for all those years was unimaginable.  Any donations should be made to the “No Kill’ shelter of choice.  A memorial service for Janice is not planned at this time.
