Cynthia Jennings Obituary

Cynthia Ann Durham Jennings passed December 31, 2019 in Englewood, Colorado. She was born on September 19, 1936 in Denver, Colorado to Florence (Mildred) Flieger Durham and Clarence Anthony Durham. Cynthia grew up in the Denver area and attended South High School and later graduated from Colorado Women’s College with a degree in Commercial Art.
Cynthia worked as a graphic artist in the aerospace industry for several companies including NL Industries, McDonald Douglas and Flight Safety. She retired from Flight Safety around 1996.
She married  Donald Johnson, together they had their son, Scott Anthony Johnson.
Cynthia’s main passion in life centered around art. She loved painting in watercolors from nature and in the fall, she would spend time in Winter Park where she found a main source of inspiration for much of her artwork. She was also an active member of the Denver Artist Guild.
After the death of Cynthia’s father in 1994, Cynthia begin an in-depth research of Clarence Durham, a major founding member and five-term president. She became interested in writing a book about him to preserve his legacy. With the help of Cynthia’s colleagues, she resolved to widen the scope of her project and began gathering information on as many of the fifty-two founding members as possible. Cynthia worked with photographer, Dean Lovett, to obtain pictures of the members paintings and murals. Eventually, Cynthia brought Kirkland Museum associate curator, Stan Cuba, to finish the project. In 2015 a book was released entitled The Denver Artists Guild, It’s Founding Members an Illustrated History.
Cynthia did extensive genealogy work for the family. She even worked with the Golden Pioneer Museum in researching Robert Millikin, her great grandfather and the first Mayor of Golden, Colorado. At times she would assume the role of Louise Caroline Chalfant Millikin, Robert’s wife, and answer historical questions for patrons at the Golden Cemetery’s Tour during Halloween time.
Cynthia helped to support and coordinate an annual IFYE luncheon at the Denver Stock Show for the mayor, governor and stock show participants. The benefits went to the 4-H Foundation.
